Captain
Tomislav Grubeša
Tomislav Grubeša, captain of Morning Star was born in 1984 in Đakovo, in continental part of Croatia.
He has finished culinary high school in his hometown, but the sea was calling him, and he ended up working as a deckhand on a few gulets in Croatia.
After he passed the yacht master’s exam, he started working as a skipper, first on gullet Malena and later on gullet Morning Star.
He has proven himself to be an excellent skipper, as he learned a lot from the captains he worked with.
Reliable and organized, but flexible, he is a great host ready to fulfill our guests’ wishes making sure they have the time of their lives. He is also very communicative and sociable, enjoys meeting new people.
During winter, when he is not with his wife and children, he enjoys playing futsal and squash.
Steward
Nikola Menalo
Nikola Menalo, born on February 20, 1987, in Đakovo, completed his education at a local high school specializing in electrical installation.
With a vibrant personality and strong communication skills, he chose to pursue a career in the hospitality industry. Over the years, he has gained experience working as a bartender in a cocktail bar for six seasons, spending one season in a restaurant, and serving as a sailor for four seasons on a similar vessel.
Known for his reliability and sociable nature, Nikola is fluent in English and German, always eager to engage guests in enjoyable conversations, particularly about his passion for sports and recreation. As a gracious host, he ensures that every guest feels welcomed and comfortable, fostering a home-like atmosphere.
During winters, Nikola works as a bartender in his hometown, but his love for travel and adventures draws him back to the coast each summer, seeking fresh adventures.
Chef
Igor Perić
Igor was born in Šabac on April 8, 1988. Upon completing his high school studies focusing on cooking and food technology, Igor embarked on a journey to expand his knowledge by delving into engineering.
Driven by his passion for ensuring safety and mitigating risks, Igor pursued higher fire protection and disaster risk management education. This diverse educational background equipped him with a unique skill set to leverage later in his professional endeavors.
Igor gained valuable experience throughout his career by working in various prestigious establishments across different countries. He refined his culinary skills while serving in restaurants in Novi Sad, Montenegro, and Croatia. Notably, he made significant contributions to esteemed hospitality venues such as the Pupin Hotels in Novi Sad and the Movenpick Fruške terme Hotel in Vrdnik near his hometown.
In his leisure time, Igor enjoys engaging in a variety of activities. He finds relaxation and joy in swimming, cycling, reading, and watching movies. However, his true passion lies in music, mainly playing the drums. Igor is proficient in percussion instruments such as kahon, djembe, and tarabuka.
Deckhand
Marin Jelić
Marin is born on July 13, 1997 in Stuttgart, Germany. Grew up in small town Stobreč near Split.
After completing high school, he embarked on a career in the hospitality sector, taking up a role as a bartender in a hotel. This position marked the beginning of a passion – driven career in hospitality. His journey in the industry progressed with a significant role as a shift manager and waiter in a coffee bar.
Out of love for hospitality and a desire for greater knowledge, enrolled in the study of Hospitality and Gastronomy. His last year's experience as a waiter at a sailing yacht has not only enriched his skill set but also clarified his career trajectory, focusing on maritime as his chosen path.
In addition to his professional activities, he likes to play sports, especially football and darts. These activities highlight his team spirit and qualities that have been useful in both his personal life and hospitality career.
