Crew

Captain
Marinko Kolanović
Born in Zadar, a city with a thousand-year maritime tradition, Marinko grew up surrounded by the scent of the sea, the sound of waves, and the sight of sails on the horizon — all of which shaped his life’s path. As a boy, he spent countless days in the harbor, watching ships come and go, dreaming of distant seas. This passion led him to maritime school and eventually to a long and accomplished career sailing on international voyages.
His professionalism, knowledge, and extensive experience have shaped him into a captain guests can fully trust. After many years spent navigating the world’s oceans, life took him across the Atlantic to New York, where he started a family and successfully built his own business. Yet, his love for his homeland and the sea never faded.
Driven by that love, Marinko decided to fulfill a lifelong dream: to purchase his own vessel and spend the summer months in Croatia, sharing the beauty of the Adriatic with guests from all over the world. His greatest wish is for his children and grandchildren to grow up by the sea, creating shared family memories that will last a lifetime — just as he once did.
With Marinko at the helm of the Adriatic Breeze, guests can expect the highest level of safety, a professional crew, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. His calm presence, expertise, and genuine hospitality make every journey not only relaxing, but truly special.
Chef
Ivo Bašić
Croatian, English
Ivo Bašić brings a unique blend of maritime experience and culinary passion to the Adriatic Breeze. Born and raised in Zadar, Ivo completed his education at the Maritime Department of the University of Zadar, where he specialized in Nautical Science and Maritime Transport Technology. His professional path has led him through a variety of roles at sea and on shore, shaping him into a versatile and dedicated crew member.
In the 2024 charter season, Ivo worked as the onboard chef and deckhand on the Adriatic Breeze. He was responsible for menu planning, provisioning, food preparation, and service for weekly charters, ensuring guests enjoyed fresh and authentic meals tailored to their preferences. Alongside his culinary duties, he assisted with deck operations and tender driving, and he maintained close daily communication with guests, prioritizing their comfort, health, and safety.
Previously, Ivo worked in a traditional Dalmatian tavern where he honed his kitchen skills — from dish preparation, grilling, and pasta making to maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment. His background also includes deck cadet experience on international vessels, marina work, and hospitality roles, making him an adaptable and reliable team member.
Ivo is passionate about creating delicious yet straightforward Mediterranean dishes, always using fresh local ingredients. His warm personality, organizational skills, and strong work ethic make him an invaluable part of the Adriatic Breeze crew, dedicated to providing guests with a memorable culinary experience on board.
